My first blog post–how exciting!

April 10th, 2010

I’ve never been much of a blogger, however, since moving to Seaside a month or so ago I’ve felt the need to share some of our experiences.  We are the new managers of Rogers Inn and on our days off we explore.

We try to go to a new place to eat each week and I’ll share with you the good the bad and the ugly.  We take long walks in town and pass interesting things to tell you about.  We drive the back roads and explore the cities around us.

I’ll add something new each week about our adventures.  This first entry will be a bit longer than usual since I’ve got a month’s worth of experiences to share.  Actually, I’ll probably just hit the highlights now and drop a few of our previous experiences into future blogs.

I do need to mention our experience at Norma’s restaurant.  We stopped by for lunch–I’m actually not much of a fish eater–ironic since we live at the beach!–so we decided to share a salmon fillet for lunch.  It was a bit pricey for us, but we thought sharing it wouldn’t break our budget.  Our meal was served and we split it up.  It was so good we ordered a second order–we’ve never done that before.  So without qualification I can recommend Norma’s downtown.

I’ll tell you about just one other adventure then save the rest for next week.  We’d driven by the Maritime Museum in Astoria several times and decided the next day off that was rainy we’d go see it.  We really lucked out because they added a new exhibit in March and for me the new exhibit was worth the price of admission–$10 unless you are old or young–well worth it.  I had seen some time ago the movie The Guardian and liked it.  It’s kind of cheesy, but I like cheesy movies.  I found out it was not only about our very own Coast Guard here in Astoria but also filmed here.  They said it was about the Coast Guard in Alaska in the movie–can’t imagine why, I think the adventures of the Guard at the Columbia Bar are exiting enough–the movie people didn’t agree with me.  Anyway, when you visit and it is rainy, treat yourself to a visit to this wonderful museum.  The gift shop was absolutely great and I plan to go back for special gifts for my grandchildren, and myself :) .  You don’t have to pay to go into the exhibits to get into the gift shop.

That’s probably enough for my first blog.  More next week, SS
